James Todd Spader is an American actor and producer. He was born on February 7, 1960, in Boston (Massachusetts). He is known to have played eccentric roles in the films Pretty in Pink, Crash, Stargate, Secretary, and Lincoln. He also played the role of Alan Shore, a lawyer in The Practice and in its spinoff series Boston Justice. Since 2013, he plays the role of Raymond Reddington in the series Blacklist.

James Spader is the son of Jean (Whose birth name is Fraser) and Stoddard Greenwood “Todd” Spader. Both are teachers. He studied at Brooks School in North Andover, where his father taught, before joining Phillips Academy in Andover, where he befriended John Kennedy Jr. He acted in many plays, So much so that at the age of 17 he decided to give up his studies to live off his passion in New York, and stayed with his sister. He studied at Michael Chekhov school while doing odd jobs such as yoga teacher, truck driver or stable boy.
